I have enclosed the latest newsletter of the new season – please distribute as necessary
The season continues to throw up surprising results resulting in that the league positions have become condensed – it appears that most clubs are capable of beating each other – whilst at the bottom all the teams are picking up points
- all Group referees have been on a Group exchange successfully
- Mason Davies (Somerset) & Nathan Howarth (Glos) have been given their first two L5 league game and came through them successfully
- Scott Galbraith – due to family / work pressures has decided to retire from the Group with immediate effect – we wish him well in the future
- Congratulations to Adam Wookey who has received his first L 4 game – BARNES v CANTERBURY – on December 3rd
- Richard Timbrell will be missing during January concentrating on his important University exams
- eight referees have officiated at the County U18 Championship held at Bristol GS recently gaining valuable experience
- A Wookey – N Howarth – H Lowis have officiated at the AASE ranking games at Filton on November 30
- the MOs / Coaches continue to give their help / advice at most games
- The selection for the National panel has been changed and is an ongoing system throughout the whole season – Ben Russell has successfully gone through the first part and has refereed the following games – TAUNTON v BURY ST EDWARDS (Sep 24) – LUCTONIANS v CHESTER (Oct 15) – BARNSTAPLE v B STORTFORD (Oct 22) – BARNES v EXMOUTH (Oct 29) - STOURBRIDGE v PRESTON GRASS (Nov 26) – BARNSTAPLE v HENLEY (Dec 10) in the near future
- the AR process has begun with D Philpot, A Nicholas & D Allen having had a training day at Bristol GS under the control of T Hunter – and will be helping out at the AASE day at Filton - there are still opportunities for others to join this group – please contact me asap – most of the work /appointments are done mid week / Sundays so that their commitment to Society Saturday appointments should not be affected
- The mid season Executive meeting will be held on December 12 – where the season will be reviewed and the nominations received from the Federations considered
- The following leagues – Ladies premier – BUCS – premier Academy – National 2 leagues – continue to have appointments made – also the 2nd phase of the AASE league which has now be completed
- The Seminar on October 16 was successfully completed with its emphasis on Management and 30 L6+ referees were in attendance with lectures and syndicates
- However due to some logistical reasons the MO/ Coach Coherence day at Taunton RFC on November 26 has been postponed until January 21st 2017
