Sept 2016 Update by Terry Friend.
The season has started with some surprising results and after 4 games O REDS & CAMBORNE are setting the pace whilst LAUNCESTON, CLEVE, BRACKNELL BROMSGROVE are already needing some good results to get them away from the bottom
- the new clubs to the league have settled in – even though Bromsgrove started on -5 points being left over from last season!
- the Group squad have all been refereeing and early indications look promising especially with the newcomers –all have passed the fitness test with an average mark of 17.5 against the pass of 16
- the group of referees being managed / mentored Paddy Dummett have been benefitting from his advice when required / asked for!
- the MOs / Coaches continue to give their help / advice – with A Swift & T Bowers being monitored whenever possible – there will be a Joint Coherence day at Taunton in November
- The selection for the National panel has been changed and is an ongoing system throughout the whole season – Ben Russell has successfully gone through the first part and refereed his first L4 game on Saturday – TAUNTON v BURY ST EDWARDS
- the AR process has begun with D Philpot & D Allen being joined by Adam Nicholas (Devon) under the control of T Hunter – they will having a day at the County U18’s held at Bristol GS – there is still opportunities for others to join this group – please contact me asap – most of the work /appointments are done mid week / Sundays so that their commitment to Society Saturday appointments should not be affected
- It has been announced by the RFU that the following leagues – Ladies premier – BUCS – premier Academy – National 2 league – have been upgraded due to various reasons so that SWG appointments to these competitions as a member of the T3 will be paid a fee – contract details have gone to the referees
- Nominations by the federations for the Seminar on October 16 have been received – the 18 nominations will be joined by Paddy Dummett’s group in attendance. The talks are being given by D Rose (Management not penalties!) – N Wood (scrum - poacher turned gamekeeper!) – B Russell (from player to referee!) + some syndicate work
- The following seminars have been booked – L7/8/9 at Avonmouth RFC on October 16 – AR day at Bristol GS U18 competition on October 22 – MO/ Coach coherence day at Taunton RFC on November 26
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE GROUP RELY ON THE FEDERATIONS / INDIVIDUALS TO LET US KNOW WHO MIGHT BE DOING WELL (REFEREE / MO / COACH) AS THE SEASON DEVELOPS AND COULD BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE GROUP MEMBERS - REPORTS SHOULD BE ENCLOSED PREFERABLY FROM OUTSIDE THE HOME SOCIETY - PLEASE CONTACT ANY OF TONY ROBERTS – IAN WOODGATE – MALCOLM JAMIESON – DAVID LEVY OR MYSELF
