The Changing Landscape
As outlined in the recent newsletter, the RFRU is now a National Constituent Body of the RFU under a new constitution.
This constitution provides for a Council which comprises one representative from each Society and one from each Federation. Each type of representative is able to carry a proxy vote for the relevant other type and some have indeed indicated this is how they wish to be represented in future.
The first RFRU Council under this new arrangement is being held on Sunday 6th November 2016 at Chesford Grange hotel in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
We are combining this council meeting with a Conference to which each Society and Federation is invited to send one delegate even if they previously agreed that Council representation by proxy. The purposes of this joint Council and Conference are:
To mark the beginning of a new era in the administration of match officiating
To clarify the purpose of the RFRU
To discuss and clarify the role of the RFRU Council and the representatives
To update everybody on progress with implementing the Match Official Blueprint
To hear about the changes happening and planned in the wider game
To discuss how Societies and Federations can play their full part in delivering the Blueprint recommendations and respond to wider developments in the game
The Conference will be opened at 10:00 am by Peter Baines, RFU President and will finish at 16:30 following a closing address from Nigel Melville, Director of Professional Rugby.
Delegates should register between 09:30 and 10:00
Accommodation will be provided under the same rules as for National Panel appointments:
Less than three hours travel, please travel on the day,
More than three hours travel, please travel the night before and accommodation will be provided at the venue.
Unfortunately, the conference budget does not extend to travel expenses.
If you have not already done so, please let Ian Woodgate, the RFRU Secretary IanWoodgate@therfu.com, have details about your nominated delegate to the Council and Conference and accommodation needs by Friday 14th October.
I very much hope that all Societies and Federations will play a full part in this event.
Yours in Rugby
Graeme Charters
