Referee Report Forms
Global Law Trials Survey
Attached are the results of the recently conducted Global Law Trials (GLT) survey and my thanks to those members who responded - match officials were, by a considerable margin, the single largest group of respondents. You will notice that the survey included the Premiership and Championship feedback but the overwhelming response came from the Community game. These results were presented at the RFU Laws Sub Committee which I attended yesterday. Ultimately, this feedback will help provide the RFU’s response to World Rugby later in the year.
Referee Report Forms
As may know, I chair the Match Official Technical Advisory Group (TAG) which reports into the RFU Game Development Sub Committee. This season, we have been working on improving and standardising referee report forms up to level 5 (additionally, Gareth and Steve have been working on amending the Performance Reviewer documentation for levels 3 and 4) which many of our members felt was long overdue! This work is substantially complete, including guide notes for using the forms. A number of societies have offered to trial the new forms for the last few weeks of the season and we will consider their feedback during the Summer, with the intention of launching the forms for the beginning of next season. It is also intended to adopt the term ‘Referee Developer’ to describe our volunteers who work with our referees (this nomenclature is the preferred term used by World Rugby) The argument being that less experienced referees receive feedback which essentially combines some assessment of performance with helpful and supportive advice - coaching in effect. A fuller explanation of the new forms etc will be made in due course and will feature at our AGM in June.
As always, if you have any comments or questions, please get in touch.
