Great day at HQ
Set out from Padstow at 5am on Sunday 31st May and pointed the faithful old Honda Civic to London and Twickenham.
Half way all day breakfast was eagerly consumed and onwards to Fleet services as the many gold and black shirted faithful took breaks in the journey.
Arrived Twickenham half ten and off to the cabbage patch where the forward divisions had made land. Beer and singing. Meeting and greeting. Pasties and cheering. The massed ranks were ready to march.
To Twickenham the destination. Bars doing good business. The voices of the Cornish could be heard. Giant pasties, Betty stogs and the Falmouth marine band.
Kick off. Tension and expectation in equal measure. Lancashire the holders. Big pack. Even bigger backs! Tackle Cornwall! Oh yes they did. Again and again. A scrum half break by Cornwall TRY! Balls were kicked. Nails were bitten and pints were quaffed. Another Cornwall try by Shep. A pen by Billy. The lead expands but then a yellow card for Cornwall and Lancs will not give in. They score. Time slows. They get closer and closer....
The referee. He started it. The celebrating that is. He blows for time. 18 ; 13.
CORNWALL ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS AGAIN!
The players are jubilant and the crowd, shall I say, are rather pleased! Such a cheer! Trelawny rings out. The Cornish voices soar. The Trophy. The cup is handed over to willing hands and cue celebration time!
